The outbreak of the Corona Virus is a brutal reality we all have to live with for the rest of our lives. In an age, when technological advancements have helped us reach Mars, it is astonishing how a virus could affect us to this extent.
When the virus had initially spread in Italy, people did not take it seriously. It was only when Italy declared that it has failed to cure and prevent the further spread of this deadly virus, did the whole world wake up to the idea of the Coronavirus. It took us quite some time to wrap our heads around the whole concept of the Coronavirus. In an era governed by AI & Nanobots, we could never even begin to imagine the concept of curfews and lockdown.
We had only heard stories about the same from our parents as the situations they had to face in wars!
Suddenly schools were shut down – for an indefinite period! At Doon International School also things were not different! Initially, kids were happy, but as the lockdowns got extended slowly and slowly the hopes of going to school also started subsiding. Everything went online- assessments, lessons, quizzes. Although initially, it was fun, the constant cooped up inside the home, felt like a jail!
Suddenly the curriculum was divided into parts – pre corona and post corona.! Doon international school is known for its distinguished international exposure, be it in hobbies, extracurriculars, exchange programs, or sports! Due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, all trips and activities were canceled. Although virtual was also good enough somewhere the hands-on learning approach suffered. The children also started feeling frustrated and irritated, staying indoors with parents all the time. Of course, the frustration level of parents had crossed all saturation limits! However, our talented and experienced faculty did an excellent job in staying connected with the students and parents, patiently through online platforms.
But in this whole scenario, we realized as individuals, as individuals staying in society and as a society on a whole, the importance of the front-line workers – cops, workers, doctors, nurses, etc. Although all had their role to play, in handling the Covid crisis, the most vital participation has been of the doctors. The level of commitment, passion, and capacity to cater to the patients – especially the covid patients – needs a different kind of mention!
Since March 2020, for the rest of 2020, we went from one lockdown and curfew to another. Although the situation looked a tad bit better towards the end of 2020, people with their ignorance and aversion to the hygiene and safety normal, lead to the second wave of Coronavirus to hit. And, as we all know, it turned out to be more devastating and critical than the first wave.
Vaccination was a hot topic of discussion and appeal to and from the government, during the first wave of the Covid – 19 Outbreak. However, vaccination did come into existence during the second wave. And with the vaccination, came the baseless old-age speculations!
The role of doctors has been very elemental since the first wave; However, it just became all the more prominent and relevant in the second wave.
The doctors had to wear the PPE kits to heal the patients, in the sweltering heat. Food and sleep became a luxury for the doctors because saving a life was their priority – at any cost! A doctors’ life is as it is very tough, but with Corona, it was the toughest! The doctors made their supreme sacrifice – no food, no rets no sleep for days at end. While the normal people were cribbing about being stuck with their families in lockdowns, these brave hearts had to leave theirs behind and put their service to humanity first!
Our Chairman Mr. Devinder Singh Mann would like to share such an instance that he faced in the Covid times, which has made him so welcoming and heartwarming towards doctors.
‘It was the first lockdown during the second wave of the Coronavirus outbreak. The daily covid positive cases were on a high and deaths were also proportionally high. There is a young doctor couple that stays right next door, they are my neighbors. One evening I was taking a stroll on my lawn. Suddenly I heard a small shriek. I saw an old lady had fainted across the street. Stick was lying on the road. She had suffered from a heart attack. She was recovering from the corona. The doctor’s wife staying next door rushed to rescue, without thinking even once, about her infant! She did the preliminary CPR while the husband’s doctor called the ambulance. Their promptness and selflessness were truly inspirational. It made me wonder – why are they doing it? What will they gain out of it? For whom are they doing it? The answer I got was they’re doing it not as a job, but for humanity! As being doctors, they have to cater to humans – irrespective of their age, gender, cast, or disease. I learned the qualities of selflessness, devotion, kindness, compassion, sincerity. And this instance, motivated me to develop the similar quantities in the students at doon international school as well.”
The Doon International School mainly focuses on transforming young learners into global citizens with the latest technology, exposure, and experience!
However, life is not all about the technicalities – since we all are human beings as well. Hence, at Doon International School, we focus on the holistic development of the child along with empowering his cognitive abilities. Developing a rational and practical approach with a humanitarian spirit is the goal. We are not raising achievers who will become only engineers and doctors. We are making individuals who will have a career that suits their hobbies and passion. With the extracurriculars, that are the best in the Tricity, we want the students to enjoy learning in a fun way! If academics are boring then there is a plethora of hobbies and blubs to take away the boredom and reduce pressure!
1st of July is celebrated as Doctors day by the Indian Medical Association (IMA)in honor of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy’s remarkable contribution to society in terms of education and hands-on learning. It is after the incident that Our Chairman sir had witnessed, that as a goodwill gesture, on 1st of July Doctors’ Day, and a token of gratitude for all the selfless work being done by the doctors in every filed, everywhere, Doon International School is offering a small 30 % discount on the admission fees for the kids of the medical practitioners. . It is nothing much, but just a small token of thanks for the amazing work that this community is doing in such a beautiful manner. We just want to encourage them and give them a reason to smile – not just to them but to their families as well! This is not some scheme. This is an effort an initiative to boost the growth of such doctors and their ability to heal.
If there is one thing corona has taught us – it is the power that unity has! As a family. or a community as a whole, why just corona any virus can be defeated!
Yes, the corona has impacted the teaching-learning process. But it has not damped the human spirit! As long as there is life, we will overcome this crisis as well and emerge on the other side – stronger and better.
With lockdowns coming to an end, we look forward to reopening the school! It will be a fresh start for all kids and parents. Corona has taught us to appreciate what we have instead of, take it for granted. So, the school and all that was burdensome and boring will now be hopefully welcomed by kids with open arms! And of course, as our Chairman sir intends, we bow to the medical practitioners with folded hands for their unconditional efforts and initiative in curbing this virus! Whether it is treating corona patients to putting the vaccines – their role is priceless!
We, therefore, welcome everyone to come and join us and take a step further into realizing their dreams and do full justice to their potential. We at Doon International School believe, that quality learning starts early and at school!
Therefore, come forward and do your bit by handing over your child to us and take back a young achiever and a good human being! We promise to take care of your child and his capabilities and help him explore the best possible options in shaping his personality for the future!
Therefore, on this auspicious day, we take immense pleasure in wishing everyone in the medical fraternity a very Happy Doctor’s Day!
The flame for a brighter tomorrow has to be lit today! Come for the admission of your child, let us nourish him, train him and – leave with a student who shines in his own glitter.
